Visit Rebekah's Page to get updates, read messages and send messages to Rebekah and her family through comments. This is a public "diary" of a family whose little girl started a battle with inoperable cancer in April 2005. In December 2007 our house burned down. And in September 2009 Mommy was diagnosed with a terminal disease (a genetic form of ALS) that took her to Heaven in July, 2011, leaving Daddy and two young girls to make it on their own. Over several years of ups and downs, you will get into our hearts, minds and souls as we share joys and sorrows. It can sometimes be very difficult to read. We hope it is also uplifting. Please find joy in what you read here.

Thursday Updates

2:00pm They have decided not to give Rebekah any more radiation treatments this week. She is just not doing well enough. I think this is a mixed blessing. The radiation treatments are killing her but they are needed to survive. What kind of a world do we live in?!?

Rebekah seems to be doing okay breathing as long as she is sitting fairly upright in mommy's arms. Laying down causes the breathing problems now. They are talking about doing a chest xray just to rule out any problems in the lungs even though everyone if fairly certain from listening to her that her blockage is up in her throat somewhere.

They are also starting to talk about taking her off of the fentanyl (morphine) drip and put a patch on her. The patch will deliver slightly less medicine right into the skin and should be good for 48 hours or so. If necessary we can also supplement that with some liquid medicine into her feeding tube.

She seems to be digesting food through her tube which is a really good thing. Hopefully she will gain some strength through this and we can start to see some of our little girl again.

I also want to take a moment to thank our friend Shawn and all of the ladies at her office. They have had baby Sarah for 2 days now which has been a big blessing for us. Trying to live out of the hospital room with one sick one is bad enough - then add a walking and curious 11 month old and you have a recipe for disaster.

8:30am Rebekah did not have a very good night (which means neither did mommy). We are still having airway issues and her breathing is just not sufficient to keep enough oxygen in her blood. Her lungs are dry (a good thing) but there is some blockage in her upper airway. We do not know whether a good suction would remove it or whether it is more swelling, scabbing, etc.

Right now she really needs some oxygen blowing by her face to keep enough oxygen in her blood stream. With little kidos you take a small dixie cup and place an oxygen tube through the bottom so the cup kind of funnels the oxygen toward their face. Unfortunately Rebekah is not at all happy about this cup in or around her face and keeps ripping it away.

We still have no news back on the cultures for infection.

In trying to treat all of these "side effects" of the treatment we have started in a dog-chasing-his-tail problem. Now we are chasing side effects of medinces with more medicines which have their own side effects.

Ugh.

On a good note - a few more photos are up on www.HelpRebekah.com. Thank you for enjoying them.

Today I am praying that the doctors are granted divine wisdom in Rebekah's case - and that they will feel the hand of God moving its way through her room and her body. I am praying that her sores begin to heal faster and that she is wrapped in the loving calm of our Father. I will also, always, be praying for your strength and for you to feel the encouragement from all of the people out there praying for you and for your daughter.

More prayers from Seattle...

The medications and treatments for medications and treatments for those treatments can be discouraging, I know. Take strength from all of our prayers, we are lifting you!

I am praying also as Marla said that the doctors are granted wisdom from God. They were in the case of my son six years ago. I have a small fundraiser at my blog and I just wanted to let you know so I am held accountable.

Lord, if it's your will, I pray that you astonish everyone, the doctors, the care givers, the nurses, friends, family and total strangers, with a miraculous healing that far exceeds all expectations, and demonstrates your power conclusively without a shadow of doubt, so that all who hear and see give you the glory.

1 O LORD, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.
3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
4 What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen,
And also the beasts of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

~ Psalm 8

I found your site through another friend of mine who is a cancer patient.

My son has brain cancer, a supratentorial PNET in his right frontal lobe. He completed treatment 15 months ago and is doing very well.

Medulloblastomas and PNET's are the same cancer that causes Ewings, the first two are in the brain and the other is in the bones.

I am so sorry to hear the side effects of Rebekah's treatment. I know about the mouth sores, and they can be devastating. I don't know what chemo she's on, but the severe mouth sores sound like methotrexate.

We will pray for your sweet Rebekah, I'm so sorry she's going through this.

Heavenly father, we beg You to hear us. Please touch Rebekah. Permit her to know You are near. Give her strength and comfort and peace.

Please touch her family. Let them also feel Your presence, and feel Your guidance through this time. May all their concerns be address through You. Put a hedge about them, about their home, about their family. Protect them from all harm.

Be with the doctors and proved them with a divine wisdom as they work on this child and with this family.

May this situation be used for Your glory, for a blessing to others.

Amen

Today my prayer is for laughter... yes, joy for each member of this precious family, if it be because Sarah did a crooked summersault, then giggle...if it be because Rebekah's eyes are sparkling more...shout to God with a joyful noise...if it be becuase mommy and daddy bumped noses while kissing...laugh laugh laugh. My prayer is that the simple things in life will not be lost during this difficult time, that there will be memories to take from this time that are joyous. Our Father is the Father and creator of laughter and joy. I pray laughter and joy for each member of this family. This advise and prayer was given to us while we suffered through years of illness with our son, and there were times that laughter was the only thing that kept us going...laugh, shout praise, be joyful. Be joyful in all things, not because of all things.

I will add my voice and spirit to those already engaged in prayer for you.

Thank you, Lord God, Great Physician for holding these good people in the palm of your hand. Thank you for bringing Christians from far and wide to lift up the Adams in their time of need.

Father, minister to all of their needs, Rebekah's to breathe easily and have no pain, Mommy and Daddy's to rest easily and have hope for their daughter, little sister to be well taken care of and see Mommy and Daddy.

I ask this all in the name of Jesus who saved us. Amen.

Dearest Rebekah-
The people at Peppers Mexican Restaurant in Hillsboro are thinking of and praying for you. They have decided to take 25% of ALL of their profits between today through Saturday to donate to you! They adore your dad and are very concerned for you! Four families and two individuals ate dinner tonight at Peppers to show their support for you! Hopefully more came after we left!

Michael and Jacob proudly wore their Reach the Day bracelets and devoured rice, beans, chicken enchiladas and chips with salsa! They ask those of you in the area to please go and show your support some time between tonight and Saturday! We have pictures of those who were there tonight!

In our bedtime prayers, we added, "Bye Bye cancer, bye bye burns, Hi oxygen and easy heart"- These words the boys can say and understand.

We love you all,
Auntie TT, Uncle Mark, Grandma Betty Adams, Michael and Jacob

Paul over at Hill Country Thoughts sent me this way. My heart goes out to all of you in your family...you are walking through the fire...there is no worse place than to not be able to relieve the suffering of your child. While we have never gone through what you are, we raised 3 children with some health issues and now our grandchildren have some too...but it is a piece of cake compared to yours! May our wonderful Abba Father hold you, especially little Rebekah in the palm of HIS hand and bring her relief from the pain of this horrid disease!! Will be praying for His strength to uphold you in ways you could never dream and that in all of this, somehow others around you will see HIM holding you all up! I will ask our small Bible study group to pray as well! Blessings and prayers,
Elizabeth

"Lord, I ask that You receive glory from Rebekah's strength and courage. I ask that You comfort the parents who also display extraordinary courage, composure, and strength. Use this crisis in this family to bring in the lost and also to show this family just how much You love and care for them. Lord, I trust you in all situations, and I give You praise and thanksgiving for the unity that has already come about from Rebekah's struggle. In Jesus' name I thank You. Amen.
My prayers are with you and your daughter. God bless you as He has me.
