Visit Rebekah's Page to get updates, read messages and send messages to Rebekah and her family through comments. This is a public "diary" of a family whose little girl started a battle with inoperable cancer in April 2005. In December 2007 our house burned down. And in September 2009 Mommy was diagnosed with a terminal disease (a genetic form of ALS) that took her to Heaven in July, 2011, leaving Daddy and two young girls to make it on their own. Over several years of ups and downs, you will get into our hearts, minds and souls as we share joys and sorrows. It can sometimes be very difficult to read. We hope it is also uplifting. Please find joy in what you read here.

Mid Afternoon Update

2:oopm.  Rebekah is still mostly sleeping from the anesthesia this morning and probably a lot from being worn out from our little jaunt outside yesterday.

Chemo is still not running which starts to put into question our ability to leave tomorrow.  We need at least 24 hours from the start of chemo to be able to leave.  She had a fever this morning and at lunch and that could have something to do with the time things are getting started.  Right now we are running additional fluids through her to try and get the specific gravity of her urine to a point where we can start chemo (another requirement along with blood counts, no fever, etc...)

Rebekah still seems to be digesting her food at a decent rate and she has gained weight - nearly a full kilo - from our admittance last Monday.  She is now back at 14.6k (32 pounds).  When we started this in April she was 16.1k (35.5 pounds).

Daddy came over to the room at lunch time and mommy and Rebekah were both sleeping.  That was a good thing except daddy did not get to love on either of them.  Oh well, he will have to come back for some later.

Thank you again for the kind words and encouragement.

I hope you get to 'love on them' when they wake up. It's wonderful for her to see the love her family has. My son just turned four and he doesn't tell his brother "I love you" unless he just finished punching him and is facing 'I love you' or some couch time. (Usually both) I was warmed by the fact that Rebekah told Sarah she loved her the other day, that is a sign that there's a strong bond in your family.

I am just reminded of your prayers not long ago Scott that Rebekah would start gaining her weight back.

Sometimes they are hard to see but prayers are being answered through all of this. I am continually AMAZED at the prayer your family is getting. It warms my heart to see that people have responded to the requests for prayer.

Here's to more answered prayers!

I'll be praying that the fever recedes and that chemo will come quickly and that your release even quicker.

You know what I was just thinking...how remarkable this is going to be in the future to read to Rebekah (or when she can read herself) of her struggle and just how much she is loved!

Father, we pray for Rebekah's healing, for a miracle that only You can give. Thank you for her weight gain. Grant wisdom to the doctors and nurses and all who are involved in this situation and guide their hands. Please give strength and courage and peace to the family and help them all to feel Your Blessed Presence with them. In Jesus name, amen.

I can not even imagine the weariness and the exhaustion you must feel as this crisis goes on. All the sacrifices you have made for your child. I stand in awe of your strength, but I know it's not your own strength, but the Lord's. So many lives have already been changed by this family. God alone knows how many are to follow. My prayers continue to be with you and Rebekah.
