Visit Rebekah's Page to get updates, read messages and send messages to Rebekah and her family through comments. This is a public "diary" of a family whose little girl started a battle with inoperable cancer in April 2005. In December 2007 our house burned down. And in September 2009 Mommy was diagnosed with a terminal disease (a genetic form of ALS) that took her to Heaven in July, 2011, leaving Daddy and two young girls to make it on their own. Over several years of ups and downs, you will get into our hearts, minds and souls as we share joys and sorrows. It can sometimes be very difficult to read. We hope it is also uplifting. Please find joy in what you read here.

The New Room

Now we HAVE to get the new room finished fast.

Rebekah is apparently tired of laying in bed or sitting on the couch.  The last couple of times she has had bursts of energy have been late in the evening – you know, when mommy and daddy are trying to go to bed…  Rebekah just kind of slid off the couch and started crawling towards the new room saying she wanted to go in there.  Mommy and daddy were able to help her walk and she was fascinated with the trees and animals Annika has painted.

She kept walking along the wall where everything is painted and pointing and making sounds we couldn’t quite determine.  She noticed right off that one tree had a squirrel in it and the other one didn’t.  She also noticed the butterflies were different colors.  We were able to ask her a few questions about putting more animals and where she wanted them.  All we could get from her was a very faint “yah” but she kept pointing all along the floor.  SHE LOVES IT.  As soon as she helped us close the doors she wanted back in.

She knows it is her room!  WAY COOL !!!!!

BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE. She was just not content to sit there and kept saying she wanted to BACK into the room. So we did. Then she said she wanted daddy to get the camera to take pictures of her and the animals. Well, ok, she said "yah" when I asked - which is not that common.

"Look Mom A Tree!!!!!!"

"I am SO happy!!!!!!!"

"I am even walking!!!!!!!" It might be unsteady and it might require help but it sure is a joy to see.

Wow, sure glad I went to read the first comment on this blog and there saw the three adorable pictures of Rebekah in HER wonderful new room. Had many prayers lifted up for all of you at our Bible Study tonight.
Thank God the radiation bridge will soon be crossed and desperately praying for no lasting bad side effects except for that good one of COMPLETE HEALING!
Love and hugs to all and especially little Sarah who will celebrate her 1st birthday later this week.

Rebekah and family, you don't know me, but I wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you daily ever since I found your site on a friends website (jennyrunkel.com.) I keep yours, Josh's, and Maggie's site up on my computer and refresh it several times a day. Rebekah seems like such a strong and loving little girl. She also seems to be such a wonderful big sister. I pray for her health as well as yours. It sounds like Rebekah has touched so many lives. As I said of Maggie - It reminds me so much of Jesus - how one person can touch so many people. I know she has touched my life. Well, not just touched, more like reached out, grabbed, and held on. I also offer prayers up for Gage, Oliver, Kennedy, Josh, and all of the other children and their families going through this struggle. I don't know how to let any of them know (except for Josh) that I am praying for them, so I hope that they see it on your site. I also pray for the doctors and researchers too as they work with your children and look for ways to not only fight this horrible disease - but to eradicate it permanently. Love to you all.

The first thing I noticed was mommy's eyes, oh the joy of seeing those eyes! God will never leave us nor fail us, let the joy of that promise comfort and shield you.

Rebekah looks stronger than we have seen in a while, that is wonderful to witness.

When Rebekah's happy mom looks happier too! What a great gift that artist has given you, and when she paints for a sick child, she is painting for God.

That is awesome that you are almost done with radiation treatments. To see picturs of Rebekah up and walking is a God send. She is getting stronger every day from the looks of it. God is good and He can do all things. He will get all of you through this and you will come out the other end stronger for having gone through it. It is in our trials that our faith and strength are built. I was so happy to see Rebekah up that I could not stop crying. We will see you Saturday, stay strong. Love you all.
