This is a public "diary" of a family whose little girl started a battle with inoperable cancer in April 2005. In December 2007 our house burned down. And in September 2009 Mommy was diagnosed with a terminal disease (a genetic form of ALS) that took her to Heaven in July, 2011, leaving Daddy and two young girls to make it on their own. Over several years of ups and downs, you will get into our hearts, minds and souls as we share joys and sorrows. It can sometimes be very difficult to read. We hope it is also uplifting. Please find joy in what you read here.

A Busy Weekend

Here it is very early Monday morning. I (Mom) can't sleep. There are too many things going on in my mind. So, I thought I would put up an update since I know it has been a while.

Friday morning as we were walking into Radiation, Rebekah decided to run and lost her balance and fell in the parking lot. She banged up both hands and both knees pretty good. One of the knees wasn't bleeding, but the rest were. The nurse was able to clean out Rebekah's wounds while she was asleep (under anesthetic) and get them bandaged up. That started the day off on the wrong foot. Once we got home, she really didn't want to eat and said she wanted to sleep - so down for a nap she went.

Lately, she has been taking long (4 hour) naps. Some of that is probably due to the early morning hour, but I'm not sure that it all is. Some of it might be related to the radiation.

Rebekah has a couple of sores on her lips. One of them is from the fall she took at Radiation. The other looks really sore and we're not exactly sure of the cause - did she bite her lip or is it from the radiation. Mom has been putting some of the "magic mouthwash" on her lip to make it feel better. Please pray that the sores go away and stay away.

She has also had some problems with vomiting. It hasn't been much volume, but it has me worried a little. Thank goodness for the anti-nausea medicine that we have for her. Please pray that the nausea and vomiting stay away.

We had a big crowd here for the weekend that started to show up Friday afternoon. We were able to get quite a bit of work done around the house - trim for the outside of the windows (all the way around the house) cut and painted and some of it put up, insulation put in the new room, weeding, a gate manufactured for the front yard so we can get the riding lawn mower in without having to disconnect part of the fence, other painting, a new mailbox put up, and quite a bit of work on cleaning up the inside, too. There's probably more than that, but that's all I can think of now. Thank you to everyone who made it possible - Grandma M, Alton & Pat, Lawrence & Opal, Brad & Dinah, Charlie & Linda, Morgan & Kelbe, Ann & Joe & JJ, Dave & Ian, Ed and John. I hate to mention names, because I've probably forgotten someone. If so, please forgive me.

We are at home tonight, but will be heading into the hospital tomorrow. Mom will take Rebekah and Sarah down for Radiation - we'll pick up Pat on our way in so she can help with Sarah. After Radiation, we will wait around until our appointment at clinic at 9:30 and should be admitted for Chemo after that.

Scott will hang out at home, waiting on an inspection on the new room. We hope that it will go well and we can get the room drywalled while we are at the hospital. Please pray that it works out. That would be one less burden for us. After the inspection is complete, he will head into the hospital, too, with the camping trailer.
