Visit Rebekah's Page to get updates, read messages and send messages to Rebekah and her family through comments. This is a public "diary" of a family whose little girl started a battle with inoperable cancer in April 2005. In December 2007 our house burned down. And in September 2009 Mommy was diagnosed with a terminal disease (a genetic form of ALS) that took her to Heaven in July, 2011, leaving Daddy and two young girls to make it on their own. Over several years of ups and downs, you will get into our hearts, minds and souls as we share joys and sorrows. It can sometimes be very difficult to read. We hope it is also uplifting. Please find joy in what you read here.

Cranky and in Pain

Rebekah woke up rough from anesthesia this morning. She was cranky and wanted down. Of course, it isn't safe for her to be walking just after she wakes up from anesthesia. She wasn't happy being in mom's arms. After about 15 minutes of complaints and not really getting any better, mom decided to pack her into the car and head home.

Once in the car, she was quiet and relaxing most of the way home. She said she wanted to eat a couple of times. Mom offered her water, but she didn't want that and she really needs a little time before eating. We don't want her getting sick in the car.

Once home, mom asked what she wanted to eat. She said she wanted pancakes (well she said yes when mom offered to make pancakes). She wanted to sit in Sarah's chair while mom fixed them, but wouldn't eat any snacks and was fussing the whole time. When the first ones were done, mom fixed her a plate and she just pushed them away. She didn't want up from the chair but she wouldn't eat and continued fussing (or should I say screaming). She seems to be screaming from pain. It really hurts my heart to see her like that. I wish I knew exactly where and how she was hurting, but she can't tell us.

After about a half hour of that, mom got her up and tried to snuggle with her. She continued screaming. Dad tried to hold her and get her to stop screaming without much success. We checked her temperature (which was fine) and gave her some Tylenol. About 5 minutes later, she said she wanted to eat. She sat in mom's lap and ate 4 pancakes with syrup - yes I said 4. Is the medication starting to work?

Now she is playing and being much more herself. Let's pray that continues. Unfortunately, this crankiness is becoming the norm. When she gets upset like this, she starts hitting - either herself or whoever is near her (Mom, Dad, Sister or anyone else). We tell her that it is not ok to hit, but that she can say "not happy". We try to be consistent. Preventing her from harming herself or others can be very time consuming...

As I type this, it's 1am EST - which means it's 10pm at your house...I just wanted to encourage you and say that once again, Olivia has listened to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and has prayed for Rebekah COUNTLESS times today. ....all on her own - without any prompting from Mom or Dad. Because of her persistence, I spent more time than usual praying for Rebekah today --because as has been the pattern, Olivia seems to discern so much more than I do regarding Rebekah's daily needs!

It was only moments ago that I read the update that today wasn't such a good day for Rebekah. I continue to be amazed at Olivia's sensitivity to this situation. God has big plans for Rebekah - of that, I am SURE! He is using this to draw hearts nearer to His side.

May He continue to work in ways we cannot see to accomplish His work and His will in this situation. We continue to stand in agreement with you for a complete healing for Rebekah. Again...God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can ask or think!

....The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man (or in the case, a little girl named Olivia) availeth much! ...Believing for GREAT things!

May He bless you today in unimaginable ways!
Deb
